Insurance and You

Every year, more drivers hit our roads and freeways. As this number increases, the chances of a car wreck will also increase. Car insurance can be the difference between a minor inconvenience and a large hassle. How can you determine what insurance you need and how you can buy it? Car insurance protects you by paying for damage caused to your car or someone else's car and injury to others, yourself, or passengers in your car, plus certain other situations, such as burglary. By not purchasing insurance, you risk having to pay the total price of any harm or injury you cause others. Liability: Bodily injury and property damage that you have caused will be paid for under this type of insurance. It can also cover your defense and court costs if you are sued. Local laws typically mandate standard amounts of liability insurance, but higher amounts can be purchased and are extremely helpful. Personal Injury Protection: This is mandated in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also pay for lost wages, replacement of services and funeral expenses. Local law typically sets minimum amounts. Medical Payments: Medical payment coverage can be purchased in non-no-fault states; it will pay regardless of who may have been at fault. If this policy has been purchased, the insured person will receive coverage for all types of medical and funeral expenses. Collision: This pays for damages to your car caused by an accident. Comprehensive: This applies if your car is stolen or damaged by something other than a wreck, including weather damage or vandalism. Uninsured Motorist: This pays for repair and replacement costs when an insured person is in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a hit-and-run driver. Under-Insured Motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to pay for the total amount of the damages. Other kinds of car insurance, including emergency road service, can also be purchased. Car Insurance Groveland
